Same Day Appliance Repair Blog

Jolly Poly

A new breakthrough in laundry cleaning claims to be the first "real innovation in laundry in over 60 years" with their new clothes washing method!

The use of polymer beads has the ability to attract stains and dirt and pull them away from fabrics the way water does but with very little water and at lower temperatures. The beads are reusable so depending on how dirty your laundry is, they can be used hundreds of times before being replaced.

The beads also absorb excess colours unlike water so you don't have to worry about separating colours with their machine which is an added luxury if you purchase a lot of new clothes.

Around 38% of our water consumption in a common household is just from the use of our washing machines so this would be the biggest conservation breakthrough in quite some time as well.

Lint Literate?

Everyone knows they have to clean the "lint trap" on the dryer but have you ever wondered what that mysterious material is that collects on that trap? Clothes are woven from soft fabrics to provide flexibility, breathability and comfort. Fabric eventually begins to deteriorate even if it is not washed or dried. The agitator of a washing machine will loosen these fibers from the cloth in the form of lint. We can certainly see the result when the clothes are placed in a clothes dryer. The process a dryer goes through to dry the clothes creates a static friction that compounds the process. Dryers need to dispense their hot air exhaust and a lint trap or screen helps to block most of the loose fabric from entering the exhaust vent.

The lint trap gathers loose fabric fibers until there is no more room and will eventually choke the exhaust of the dryer. This means it takes longer to dry the clothes. It also creates a serious fire hazard. Many clothes and cloth material are not flame retardant. Placed inside the drum of a dryer with hot air created by a heating element or open flame, dryer lint can easily catch on fire. To make sure your dryer is running efficiently, and to ensure it is not a safety hazard, the lint trap or lint screen should be cleaned out thoroughly after every use per your owner’s manual.

Attack of the Killer Appliance!

Okay it isn't really killer but someone was actually attacked by their own appliance. Apparently it is common in South Korea for people to take naps on the floor. One unfortunate woman was mistaken by her own robotic vacuum cleaner as an item that needed to be cleaned up. Apparently it started making headway with her hair and wound up completely caught in her hair giving her an unexpected new do. Firefighters were called in to the rescue and they managed to get her hair untangled. My guess is this woman will stick to raised furniture from now on when taking naps.

Bad Blizzard Ideas

If you're a New Englander then you're familiar with bad winter storms and how to weather them (pun intended). It's not uncomon to lose power and in the midst of the severe cold, unless you have a generator, your house is going to cool off without heat. Be sure to NOT use your oven to heat the home if you have a gas stove. Also, don't ever bring in any gas fuel heaters to warm your home. Aside from the serious fire risk, they also use up oxygen which can leave you suffocating without realizing it until it's too late. If you're worried about your pipes freezing, then leave water flowing slowly from a faucet and the main pipes should remain unfrozen as long as it isn't too far below freezing. Stay warm and stay safe!

Don't Wave the Warranty

Nearly all products have a set time that the product has a warranty which should be clearly labeled on the product. Any time you do anything on an appliance, be sure to read the instructions to make sure you know what is and isn't allowed with the product. Even using certain products in an appliance can wave the warranty and leave you picking up the repair bill if anything happens to your appliance.

Don't ever try to do any work on your own appliance or you will certainly void the warranty. Feel free to give us a call at 800-778-0782 if you have any questions about your warranty or what products you are allowed to use.
